What is the AIVC?
The Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC) is an organization within the International Energy Agency, which offers technical support in the areas of energy, ventilation, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, etc. The AIVC maintains a technical information database to collect, archive, and share information in these vital areas.
How Can I Access the Database?
The AIVC website is publicly available through URL: www.aivc.org
While the AIVC database is publicly available through any web browser, many of the hyperlinked PDF publications are accessible only by subscription. However, the U.S. engineering and research community ( U.S. residents) can now gain access to the AIVC database -- free of charge -- by registering with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) point of contact listed below. Each registered user will be granted a unique USERNAME and PASSWORD for unrestricted database use.
U.S. access to this database resulted from collaboration between the Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), with the support of Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management (ACSIM)and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
What Does the Database Contain?
This information archived in this database reflects 25 years of operation of the International Energy Agency ECBCS Program Annex 5. Annex 5 has become an ongoing effort to collect, summarize, and produce essential information from different internationally available sources. The presentation of this information includes:
-
Ventilation Information Papers. The papers in this AIVC publications series are typically quite short (6 to 8 pages) and are intended to give a basic knowledge of some aspects related to the air infiltration and/or the ventilation: air-tightness of ventilation ducts, night ventilation strategies, sheltering in buildings from large-scale outdoor releases, air-to-air heat recovery in ventilation systems, etc. So far, the series includes 10 papers in total.
-
Technical Reports. This collection of technical reports covers subjects including ventilation, infiltration, indoor air movement, and measurement techniques, e.g., advanced ventilation systems; state of the art and trends; an overview of combined modeling of heat transport and air movement; leakage distribution in buildings, etc. The collection currently holds 59 reports.
-
Guides & Handbooks. This series of carefully researched and readily accessible publications gives detailed coverage on a range of important topics, and encapsulates the knowledge and experience derived from experts in all the AIVC Member Countries, i.e., Air Exchange Rate and Air-Tightness Measurement Techniques - An Application Guide;. A Guide to Energy Efficiency Ventilation; Improving Ductwork: a Time for Tighter Air Distribution Systems; Ventilation Modeling Data Guide, etc. This series now contains six reports.
-
Annotated Bibliographies. The AIVC maintains a collection of bibliographies: Balancing Ventilation Systems - An Annotated Bibliography; An Annotated Bibliography: Heat Pumps for Ventilation Exhaust Air Heat Recovery;Passive Cooling Technology for Office Buildings: An Annotated Bibliography, etc. This collection now contains12 Reports.
-
Literature Lists. The database includes literature listings on subjects such as: weather-stripping windows and doors; sustainability; passive solar design; passive cooling, air cleaning, etc. Currently, 32 lists are available.
-
Contributed Reports. Three additional available reports include: Ventilated Double Skin Façades: Classification & Illustration of Façade Concepts; Flow-Generated Noise in Ventilation Systems; Aerodynamic Noise of Fans.
How Do I Register?
Registration for access to the AIVC database is free to U.S. residents within the U.S. engineering and research community.
